Guest Bedrooms

It is always an exciting time when guests announce they want to visit. You anxiously await their arrival and look forward to the walks down memory lane and spending quality time together. But what happens when suddenly these dear friends and relatives stop coming? May it have something to do with your hospitality, or could it be because of the run-down lodging you provide?

In many homes, the guestrooms stay often unused for long periods of time and therefore do not get the attention they deserve. That is unfortunate as guests really want to feel at home, especially when they have travelled far, and went all out to spend some time with you.

Decorating a guest bedroom involves many aspects and requires the same kind of input you would bestow upon your own sleeping quarters. This includes a comfortable bed and quality linens and pillows. A side table with a lamp and alarm clock may also be required and maybe even a landline, in case your overnight guests need to make a private call and their cell phone is out of range. Depending on your budget you could also incorporate a radio or small TV in the room, just in case your guests like to catch up on the news or their favorite late night shows. In that case you should also provide a comfortable armchair.

Visitors should feel welcome and you can accomplish that by turning the guest bedroom more into a retreat, than a place to crash at night. Decorate the walls with stylish pictures and an elegant mirror and use attractive window treatments. Also supply ample storage for company that is staying with you for more than a weekend.  Wall shelving, dressers, or even a robust trunk at the end of the bed can solve that problem, in case you do not have a built-in closet.

When organizing a guest bedroom, think about comfort, textures and how you can make your guests feel appreciated. Sometimes little things like a basket of miniature toiletries, a fruit tray or a flower arrangement can make all the difference!
